Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has been a driving force in India’s mineral and energy journey for over six decades. With lignite as its foundational strength, GMDC has steadily built a legacy of reliability— commissioning mine after mine to fuel Gujarat’s industries, energise its homes and support its economy. Today, with five operational lignite mines across the state and six more in the pipeline, GMDC continues to be a vital pillar in meeting India’s current energy needs while enabling regional growth. As one of the country’s leading mining PSUs, GMDC is now stepping beyond its traditional footprint—evolving into a multi-mineral, multi-geography enterprise aligned with the nation’s long-term priorities.

Building on this vision, we have expanded into Odisha with the acquisition of three major coal mines—marking a strategic shift that reinforces our commitment to securing India’s thermal coal supply and supporting core sectors like infrastructure and manufacturing.

At the same time, we are advancing into the future-facing domains of copper and rare earth elements through our projects at Ambaji and Ambadungar. These resources are central to India’s aspirations in electric mobility, electronics, and renewable technologies—sectors that demand not only innovation, but also mineral independence.

Our commitment to a sustainable tomorrow is equally strong. GMDC is pioneering clean energy transitions by investing in Blue Hydrogen production through underground coal gasification—beginning at our Burapahar site in Odisha. This technology not only unlocks deep, otherwise untapped reserves, but does so in a low-emission, surface-safe manner. Additionally, our growing renewable energy portfolio—anchored by 200 MW of wind and solar installations—reinforces our pledge to environmental stewardship.
