Lignite

Powering Gujarat for Over 60 Years

Lignite is not only GMDC’s legacy mineral —it has been Gujarat’s energy enabler for more than six decades. From the earliest days of industrialisation to today’s power-intensive economy, our lignite operations have consistently supported the state’s thermal energy and captive power sectors.

GMDC currently operates five lignite mines: Panandhro, Mata no Madh, Rajpardi, Tadkeshwar, and Bhavnagar. In FY 2023–24, these mines collectively produced 61.19 lakh metric tonnes of lignite, supplying fuel to a wide range of industries, including cement, ceramics, textiles, and chemicals. With plans to add six more, GMDC is not only strengthening Gujarat’s energy security, but contributing significantly to its industrial strides.
